'Whisky Mac Medium [height]. Apricot. Remontant. Perfume 7. Hips 2
A triumph of colour over common sense, because the popular 'Whisky Mac' is quite frankly an unreliable grower with poor foliage, and plenty of mildew. After its maiden year it is somewhat stingy with its blooms. The flowers are so beautiful in their apricot yellow colour, their form and their scent, that the penalties of the plant are counted a light cost. It is the sort of rose whose flower hangs in the memory so sweetly that one looks lovingly at the empty bush. It may prove a useful parent if anyone succeeds in divorcing its beauty from its weaknesses. Raised by Mathias Tantau, and introduced in 1967. Unfortunately we do not know the parentage which led to this valuable colour.

This year Whisky undoubtedly a most attractive colour, performed similarly when both the standard and bush plants died back completely in the late autumn before being dug up. Again this cultivar had been catalogued, orders received, and customers had to be told the reason for not being able to supply it. These are but two illustrations and the rose growing nurserymen could add many more to these examples.

WHISKY TANTAU (nom provisoire) HT. — Tantau
Ce nouveau rosier aux grandes fleurs doubles est vraiment inédit par son coloris d'ambre virant au jaune cuivré à l'épanouissement. L'arbuste vigoureux, à port érigé donne naissance à un grand nombre de fleurs qui se détachent sur un feuillage sombre, ample et particulièrement sain. Bouton : allongé, de taille moyenne. Fleur i de forme parfaite. La rose est portée par de longues tiges, compte en moyenne 32 à 38 pétales. Végétation : dense et vigoureuse. Hauteur de la plante : 70 à 80 cm. Floraison : précoce. La première floraison est particulièrement abondante et la plante refleurit continuellement jusqu'à l'automne. Parfum : accentué.
