Young Quinn Yellow. 14 reports; 2 years; Av. height 170cm; Rating 6.0. Cambridge: Bushes very prone to wind damage, always picking up branches. Gisborne : Bit of a fizzer in our district, will give him another year. Christchurch: Improvement on 'Peer Gynt', Healthy and plenty of bloom which also fades.

Answering a question why 'Claire Grammerstorf' was used in breeding, Sam explained yellow was always a difficult colour and 'Claire Grammerstorf' was useful, particularly for giving hardiness and vigour. He was lucky to have had some success with 'Arthur Bell', 'Yellow Pages' and Young Quinn. They owed their constitution to Grammerstorf.

Growth is phenomenal. For example plants of Young Quinn planted in '74 had reached fifteen feet in height by the end of last summer. And they were by no means exceptional.
