HI,

I AM NEW TO HELP ME FIND. i HAD A ROSE BUSH CALLED MINT JULEP ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO THAT MY DAUGHTER HAD GIVEN ME. THE FLOWER WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL, BUT THE ROSE BUSH WAS SMALL AND EVEN WITH ROSE FERTILIZER IT DID NOT DO WELL IN MY GARADEN IN MASSACHUSETTS. MAYBE THE WINTERS ARE TOO COLD HERE. EVENTUALLY, EVEN THOUGH IT WAS AN OWN ROOT BUSH, I BELIEVE FROM ARMSTRONG NURSERIES, IT FINALLY DIED. I LOOKED FOR THIS A FEW YEARS AGO BUT FOUND NOTHING, UNTIL NOW ON HELP ME FIND.

I BOUGHT A MINT JULEP ROSE BUSH FROM AMITY ROSE AND GARDEN YESTERDAY BUT OF COURSE IT WON'T COME HERE TO FRAMINGHAM UNTIL AROUND APRIL BUT WILL LET ALL KNOW HOW IT DOES IN MY CLIMATE HERE. I READ THE REMARKS FROM THE PERSON IN CALIFORNIA, AND MAYBE THE WEATHER HERE IS TOO COLD BUT WILL KEEP IN TOUCH.

Zel, I read you question about Mint Julep, yes it is a lovely rose. It should do well in Massachusetts as I live in Omaha Ne. and we are really cold during Winter. Use winter protection and TLC and you should be fine. My name is Mary, husband Ed, Mary was already used for HMF. Good Luck

I have seen several comments on different websites saying they purchased this rose from the Michigan Bulb Co. Also saw a comment dated Feb. 2002 that somebody had ordered this rose from Publishers Clearing House. Good Luck!

Dzegne,
Thank you for replying to HMF question posted on 2/25/06. You said the rose could be purchased at Michigan Bulk where you also purchased Candy Stripe.
WHAT WAS THE NAME OF THE ROSE THAT YOU REPLIED TO? I just can't find my notes. Thank you very much. Diana........Di23gould@aol.com

My mother just got me one via Publishers Clearing house. I'm not sure if you can find it elsewhere, as I've never seen it or heard of it previously.

My mother just gave me one that she ordered through Publishers Clearing house. It is of fairly good quality. It only has two canes, but they are of good size. I will be curious to see how well it does in it's first year.

I have just found a nursery here in Japan with this rose, and I am thinking of ordering it. Will those who are growing it now tell me, does it have any fragrance?
Thank you.

Hi, in twenty years of growing Mint Julep, I've never noticed any fragrance, whether on the bush or as a cut flower. I love the color, but it's not a very good plant. If you must have the flower, get ready to protect it against disease and watch for aphids and ants in the flowers. The petals form chlorophyll and the ants will load them up with aphids so they can gather the sugar water the aphids produce!
