Two Roses introduced by Miss Lindsay prior to the Second World War probably fit into the Damask group. They are Rose de Resht and 'Rose d'Hivers'. The former may well prove to be the true 'Rose du Roi', as suggested by Brent Dickerson in The Garden for January 1989. The proof would be to acquire 'Panachee de Lyon', which is reported to be a striped sport from it. I found this unstable, liable to sport wholly to the red colouring, but could not compare it with the Resht Rose at the time, and have now lost it.

Page 81: Portland. Description. Flowers: purplish-crimson. There are signs of Gallica Rose influence both in flower and leaf, but the fact that it produces a second crop of flowers suggests its place is in this class… Brought to England by Miss Nancy Lindsay from Iran or France.

Damask Perpetual. Original introducer and date unknown. Descriptive information from primary sources. [Dickerson says,] Rescht is a provincial capital in Persia, to which this rose was possibly brought during the French repprochement circa 1807. It is possibly the red 'Tous-les-Mois'.

Damask Roses
The canes are arching and covered with large and small prickles. The very fragrant blooms come in clusters and are flat with short inner petals, longer outer ones.
Rose de Rescht (Damask - No Date) Repeat Blooms
The blooms are rather purplish red to light rose, rosette shaped with a delicious fragrance. The growth is compact and the foliage dense. This rose has trouble appearing on the show table without a date of introduction. Never mind, she is worth growing for the almost constant bloom from early spring to late fall.
