Growth stronger, to 1 m./3.3 ft. high, branches bald, glandular, not stellate-hairy; leaflets mostly 5, deeply incised, bald or nearly so; flowers dark pink, 3-5-6 cm./1.2-2-2.4 in. across; fruits globose, bristly, dull red, 1.5 cm./0.6 in. thick. 2n = 14. BM 9070; ARA 1932; VP 443. (= R. mirifica Greene). N. New Mexico, sacramento Mts. 1916. Also called "Sacramento Rose".

R. stellata var. mirifica (Greene) Cockerell (R. mirifica Grene) - Büsche bis 1 m; Zweige kahl und drüsig, aber nicht sternförmig behaart; Blättchen gewöhnlich 5, tief gesägt, kahl oder fast kahl. Blüten 3,5 bis 6 cm, dunkelrosa. Früchte rund, 1,5 bis 2 cm breit, borstig, matt rot.

The subgenus Hesperhodos Cockerell ex Rehder of the genus Rosa includes a small number of species endemic to southwestern North America. Only four species have been proposed, R. minutifolia Engelm., R. mirifica Greene, R. stellata Wooton, and R. veronii Greene...
Chromosome numbers. Hurst (1928) reported R. minutifolia with n=7 and 2n=14, numbers confirmed by Erlandson (1932) who also found the same...for R. mirifica Greene and R. stellata Wooton. To these are now added number for R. stellata subsp. mirifica...having 2n=14....

Rosa mirifica, syn. : Hesperodes minutifolia. Hauteur : 0 m. 75. Plante extrêmement curieuse ressemblant à un Berberis ou à un Groseillier épineux. Rameaux verts, garnis de poils durs et d'épines minces, blanches, pointues. Fleurs simples, ondulées, de 5 à 6 centimètres, rose carminé lilacé, parfumées, en juin.

...from seeds sent to me by the late E. H. Wilson, of the Arnold Arboretum... Stellata van Mirifica, from the same source, is most distinct and curious. I fear I shall not get much from using it as a parent.
