My Mamy Blue is leafing out (must think the SoCal desert winter is Canadian spring). Hopefully, I'll be able to post good things about this rose.

Where did you get the plant from?

I got it from Hortico but it turns out not to be Mamy Blue. Expecting a replacement in the fall.

The photo here looks exactly what I see on my plant here in 6a, Columbus. I "saved" it during a season-end clearance sale at the big nursery in Columbus, and it did probably BETTER than others which have been saved in years prior who had also spent up to July on the hot black tarmac in a tiny pot full of wood chippy soil. The scent is amazing, strong. The buds are BIG, the blooms are BIG, there are not many petals but there is a lot of substance to what it is working with. If Pristine was crossed with Lady X this is what I would think the child would look like, the leaves are dark and big and very similar to Pristine. Sites or catalogs have called it "grey" and as unapealing as that sounds, yes, the bloom is basically white with gentle casts of lilac or magenta or grey depending..........some blooms in a cloudy week will appear totally off-white leaning grey but the effect is gentle and surprisingly clean. A very good rose, a unique rose, seems to be fated to dwindling away as it never has been much talked about or wildly sold. If you like pastels, fragrance, the odd, or loved Ollie Weeks and know this was his LAST ROSE before his death.............try it.

5/16/12: Rather weak heading into last winter, was an abused plant, and never did sleep in my garage as 6a had no winter.............insanely, it is stealing the show this spring. Lusty growth, has bloomed/is blooming/will bloom even more in 2 weeks............huge basals, NO DISEASE and mildew and blackspot are endemic here already..............could not be happier. This one went from maybe #88 of 90 to #2 or 3 (Memorial Day is having a banner year as well)...........could not be happier with this one at the moment...........has left Neptune and Melody Parfumee in the dust and just last year I had thought THOSE TWO had redefined the mauve class......

Spring 2013. As far as HEAVY blooming, this amazing rose is putting Iceberg (which I hate) to shame, and I have not even fed it since it's winter pruning. It came out of its pruning quicker and better than any of my (way too many) roses, execpt the equally amazing SWEET INTOXICATION. Order this while it is stil around.

So far I've had a great experience with mine. Mine came from Hortico as a tiny, tiny twig. I planted it in Dec and now, looking out my window, I count a dozen blooms and half as many buds. It's only a foot and a half tall. Fragrance is hard to judge here due to lack of humidity. The form and color, though, are lovely. I can't wait to see it next year, a bit more established. For some reason, Hortico roses love my terrible soil. I ordered Old Fragrance three years ago on a whim, having never even heard of it. It's a bit over five feet now and a bloom factory and it's even fragrant here!

My "Babs" blooms more like a Gradiflora (clusters of flowers) then a Hybrid tea no single stems. Now, I will say mine is a 36" standard tree may be that's having some effect on it's blooming habit. Any one else have comments or observations? I guess I'll have to do some disbudding is I want single stems for cutting.
