I have a pink marina kordana I bought from Wal-Mart and repotted. I live in zone 5. Should I plant this or bring it inside? If I bring it inside will it still bloom?

Roses are not inside plants and if you try to overwinter it inside, it is a LOT of work. The plant has to be kept under growlights, washed weekly for spider mites and more. It is late in the season to plant roses in your zone, but the best place for it is outside. However, in a cold zone, be sure that you do not feed it any nitrogen until next spring. You do not want to encourage any top growth.

Since it is a new rose, you will have to be very careful about your winter protection. One option is to pot the plant up into a larger pot and giving it a place where it can get the most sun at this time of year. Then before the ground freezes, you can bury the plant, pot and all and bring it out next spring.

Good luck with your new rose.

Smiles,

Lyn

I recently purchased a mini rose from Costco, I' ve had it on the patio and bring it in when its cold and/or windy. The leaves starting at the bottom are turning yellow and falling off as well the buds are not blooming and fall off as well. Its a rather large bush ( 2Ft tall) and it was blooming when I brought it home approx 2 weeks ago. What could be the problem ? UI live in Edmonton, Alberta ,Canada.

It has been my experience that minis will behave this way when they are over watered.
Remove damaged foliage, ck for insects, if nothing is apparent..back off on the water a little bit and see if she doesn't come around.

It is now June 30th, 2003 and my gourmet popcorn rose is just now starting to bloom. After the blooming period do I cut it back as I did in the early spring inorder for it to bloom again in the fall?

This mini rose will do okay without any cutting back. It tends to grow up and then spread and cutting it back may make it look and grow awkward.

I have had a miniature rose bush for about 6 months. A few weeks ago I noticed that the stems and leaves are turning white. I don't see any insects or bugs.
What could this be and what do I do about it?

Mini roses are no different than the larger garden ones and require and like the same conditions as the large roses. I know they tell you that you can grow a mini rose in the house but usually the atmosphere is too dry for them. So what happens is the rose dries out quickly and often spider mites attack it , or a fungal disease and the rose goes downhill from there.
First replant the rose into a much larger pot at least 12 inches wide. You do this because roses love to have cool, damp roots and it helps to keep mildew under control. They really dislike dry roots and this often causes trouble when the plant re-acts. Also check for any bugs as bugs will attack a weak plant. Use any rose fungicide and just follow the directions on the package. This will solve the problem for you.
