Ross Roses in South Australia have released a climbing form of this rose, I think this year.

This is one rose that it's hard to have too many of. Superb form and colour and a fantastic strong citrusy fragrance. Seems to repeat pretty quickly, too. Doesn't seem to like the rain (they ball if you get a lot of rain as they're ready to open), or extreme heat, though. This is the first variety I ever bought two of.

I agree with you Steve! Bruce Rennie, the Canadian mini rose breeder, sent me my first one back in the early 80s before it was easily obtainable here in the US. In my mid desert rose garden, de Gaulle was magnificent! It can handled the heat, reblooms well, held up to the extremes of the climate and had a wonderful scent. In my opinion, it's one of the best of the best lavender roses.
