Notes:
According to the biography of Louis Lens ('Louis Lens, De elegantie en de roos' by Ivo Pauwels, ISBN 90-209-3919-X, (in dutch) p.82), this rose, which he sent to Mr. Lang at Sangerhausen never got commercialised. It was one of the results of a breeding program which involved rosa x involuta, which itself is described as being a seedling of r. spinosissima and r. tomentosa.
After 3 years, Mr. Lang contacted Louis Lens saying that this rose deserved at least a name. At that point he decided to call it 'Early Red', because it flowered much earlier than the other roses in this lineage.
