Bred by Gilbert Nabonnand (France, 1882).
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in before 1921 as 'Papa Gontier'.

Bloom:
Carmine-pink, yellow undertones, carmine-red reverse.  Crimson buds.  Moderate fragrance.  Average diameter 5".  Large, semi-double to double, borne mostly solitary, cupped-to-flat bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Upright.  Dark green foliage.  
Height of 47" to 14¾' (120 to 450 cm).  Width of 35" to 19' 8" (90 to 600 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).

Notes:
Named after Louis Gontier's father. Louis Gontier was an accountant and husband to G. Nabonnand's daughter.
