This rose looks beautiful in the photos, but I wonder how it can stand up to a hot sunny climate? I notice amongst the photos one that was taken in Texas, with the comment that the subtle colouring and cup-shaping of the blooms was not present "under these conditions". Does this mean that it tends to just be a fairly banal pink in heat?
Hello, The flowers do very well in full sun in my garden in the south of France. Beware, it is getting very tall (mine has stems 4 metres high planted bare rooted in November 2018=>15 CM). Best regards, Huyustus
...another one of those Austins that wants to grow as a climber if allowed.... for anyone in a climate or zone similar to mine, the height given of 4.5 feet is very conservative unless you prune hard... ...mine is 8 foot tall and not stopping... needs a tall obelisk or even a small arch possibly... I'm not sure which way I want it to go right now....
This rose looks quite beautiful, but I am afraid that a blanket statement, hardy to zone 5, which seems to accompany nearly all Austin roses, is not reassuring. Hardy in the sense that they do grow back in spring most Austins might be, but blooms tend to be few and far between, with 'Mary Rose' and the alba hybrid 'Royal Jubilee' being happy exceptions. Even my wimpy Tantau floribundas have better rebloom than do most of my Austins.
