Book (1872) Page(s) 136-137. C. PURPUREA HYBRIDA (Modeste- Guérin).-This variety is a hybrid of the Viticella section, and in habit and foliage resembles the hybrids of the Jackmanni type. The flowers are often from four to six inches in diameter, of good form, and consist of from four to six sepals, their colour being a deep purplish violet, less rich and velvety than in C. Jackmanni, having red veins (not a red bar) running through the sepals ; and they are freely produced, and successional.
