Visitors are welcome to visit the gardens of roses, daylilies among a backdrop of beautiful trees. Please call ahead to let us know you would like to visit.

We are open most days except a few Mondays and Thursdays during April, May and June when our field is bursting with color from our vast collection of tall bearded irises and peonies. Marcia Roenigk, owner of The Vintage Rosery, will show you how to increase the blooms in your rose garden. With over 800 roses in her garden, Marcia is constantly looking at methods that bring roses to their full potential.

Back by popular demand, Lucy Harrell, noted speaker and co-author of "Ladies of the Garden", has become the underground organic guru. She will be speaking on how to select the right rose for the right spot here in Texas. Old garden roses provide a myriad of options for different needs. She will discuss how to use shrub roses of different sizes, selecting the right climbers for arbors and fences; roses for containers as well as using thornless and fragrant roses. This seminar is free.

Get a lesson from an experienced rosarian and then go to work helping to prune roses in the only AARS Public Garden to be planted at a jail and maintained by inmate workers. Bring your pruners and gloves if you have them! Rain/snow date 4/30/2005
