Full Bloom in the Garden

Roses of Yesterday and Today
12 Apr 2009 (Sunday)  -  30 Jun 2009 (Tuesday)
Roses of Yesterday & Today
803 Browns Valley Road
Watsonville, California 95076-0343
United States

The roses in the garden at Roses of Yesterday and Today begin opening a little later here than most of the Bay Area, due to the unique micro-climate of the garden which is located in a redwood forested canyon with a year-round running stream. Roses begin opening in March, with the Banksia roses in full bloom early April through the end of April, and many of the roses in peak bloom around mid-May. Many of the once annual garden roses do not open until the first week of June, so it may take a few visits to enjoy the full experience. The garden is open every day, including holidays, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Picnic tables are available.

Flower/Rose arranging class by Carolyn Parker

Garden Valley Ranch
31 May 2009 (Sunday)
Garden Valley Ranch
498 Pepper Road
Petaluma, California 94952-9674
United States

Unfortunately do to an injury this class has been cancelled but be sure to check the Garden Valley website for other scheduled events.

Author of the delightful and fascinating "R is for Rose", Carolyn Parker will be teaching us all about having roses (and other flowers) in the home, all made from flowers and foliage in your own garden. This hands-on event will be held in the historic Carriage House as well as in the garden, and everyone will learn the ins and outs of handling flowers, basic arrangement principles and just generally have a lot of fun! This will include a delicious lunch in the garden (we have beautiful round tables with parasols), and you'll be surrounded by flowers! Truly a memorable event, not to be missed! Starts at 9:00 a.m., includes a walking tour of the gardens with an eye toward choosing flowers for arrangement, looking at how the bushes grow, and demonstrating how to harvest a few flowers along the way. Also, see how roses are harvested for commercial purposes in our rose field (and even see how we process and preserve roses for shipping!). Have you ever wondered how to make a big bouquet? Carolyn will demonstrate how easy it is to make these show-stoppers for your home. During lunch, you'll get to try making smaller table centerpeices from shorter-stemmed cut roses, among other flowers. We know it's not an everyday thing to come to Garden Valley, so you'll have a chance to do some shopping for both roses, gift and home products.
