Wilhelm Kordes, Holstein, Germany. My dear Mr. Editor, you are asking for something I cannot give. None of my Roses is a "Masterpiece. 'Orange Triumph', 'Crimson Glory', 'Geheimrat Duisberg' and a good many others all have their faults.......but long before that Mallerin gave us 'Ami Quinard'. The pollen from this gave me a near black but badly burning seedling with 'Robin Hood' (Pemberton's) as seed parent. the pollen from this again on to long forgotten 'Aroma' gave me Baby Chateau and here the story begins. 'Baby Chateau' is sometimes a beauty, but most times unsatisfactory, but as it is with mankind, a good soul may rest in the heart of even a loser in a beauty contest - so it is with this Rose. It gave to the Rose world the fiery cinnabar and scarlet hues that are more and more coming into our gardens..... so perhaps 'Baby Chateau is my real "Masterpiece".
