Does it take a long while for this rose to establish?
Or does the plant need full sun and higher temps to grow?
... Or does it need to grow on own root?

All three owners I know of in the Netherlands, complain about vigour!
Even after 3 years my plant is no higher than 25 cm... more like crawling. The same at Monique's and Marnix's place.

I've seen this rose in full glory at the Empire Mine State Historic Park in Grass Valley, California. The park has a great garden of old roses, well worth the trip. The grounds surrounding the Bourne Cottage are wonderful, with old pines, fountains, reflecting pool, and more. The rose docent propogates some of the old roses and I've been able to get roses that I have not found in nurseries.
