The Rose Àngels Mateu and the castle of Peralada
...In 1923, the Mateu Family bought the castle of Peralada. Damià Mateu i Bisa was a Catalan industrialist and politician. He set up industrial companies such as Hispano Suiza and was vice-president of Banco Urquijo Catalán....
Another daughter of Damià, Maria dels Àngels Mateu i Pla, was secretary of the Mont de Pietat in Santa Madrona (subtitled Institut d'Empar i Protecció in favor of the woman who lives from her work), was created in 1900 by chaplain Gaietà Soler, for the protection of working women, especially maids. This organization offered accommodation to workers without families in Barcelona and looked for work; it also provided mutual relief services in case of illness. Àngels Mateu, was also a member of the General Council of the Pension Fund for Old Age and Savings of Catalonia, Secretary General of the Institute of Working Women ", and Secretary of the" House for the Sick "and the Santa Madrona School of Nursing.....Maria dels Àngels Mateu died young, at the age of 26, in Campins, on March 20, 1923. ....In an article published in the magazine Vida femenina (May 1936), Pere Dot explained that “… had agreed with his friend Mr. Miquel Mateu that the day you have a truly exceptional new rose, would be dedicated to the memory of his sister Àngels.
