A neglected plant in my parent's yard near San Diego produced a springlike flush of bloom this January. I like the winter roses for some reason. Plant has a full set of new leaves, is even slightly bushy and has not received any pruning for at least a year.
Most of the year the plant is partly defoliated and flowerless. It gets no fertilizer, mulch or compost, and gets normal sprinkler irrigation a couple of times a week.
edited to add on May 11, 2020: it did it again, no pruning or fertilizer, went through an unattractive phase when all the old leaves turned yellow and dropped, but meanwhile had a full crop of buds in waiting. Been in full bloom a couple of weeks. Plant not bushy enough to look like a master gardener's plant, but has a full crop of flowers.
One negative, for untended plants like this, is old petals eventually fade white, looks unattractive until flowers shatter.

Nice plant. Healthy. A lot of blooms. Unfortunately, the blooms lasted so long and were so double that as they aged, they made the whole picture of it look really dirty :[
The color is not pure red. It was pure red with a brick red overcast to it. I think this rose would have been a big hit if it was less double.

Bright red floribunda outstanding in every respect except for the absence of fragrance. Lovely clusters composed of long lasting blooms with perfect old rose form. Resists powdery mildew. Makes a great tree rose. First rate exhibition rose.

Mine was a mislabeled rose and I am delighted I have this "mistake" in the garden ! The blooms stand up to triple digit temps for weeks at a time and continue throughout the hottest part of the year. The plant can get blackspot, if we have a long, wet spring.
Smiles, Lyn

A great rose. The blooms are very long lasting. I like the old fashioned look. The only "problem" with this rose is that there is absolutely no fragrance.
