Am I right in thinking that because this rose is not patented ("came to them from a collector who had brought it in from Europe many years before"), it can be propagated for friends? - What I'm really hoping is that someone with a plant of Leila Verde will pop up to offer me cuttings, since I can't find a vendor for it!

Recent discussion on Gardenweb's Roses Forum contained comments speculating that 'Leila Verde' is an erroneous name, and that this rose is actually the Hybrid Tea 'Lila Vidri' that was introduced by Pedro Dot in l958.

I gave Arenas Roses the same information years ago. Whoever Arenas got the budwood from insisted that it was not Lila Vidri. I believe it is quite likely Lila Vidri.
This is another example of how things get confused in commerce. The original name should be restored and Dot given credit as hybridizer.

Yes, this is being shown shown in Modern Roses 12 database as a synonym of the Simon Dot HT, 'Lila Vidri' 1959. Thanks for the information.

I'm glad someone had the fortitude to put that one to rest. Thanks Cass.
