'Moulin Rouge' Cluster-flowered. Raised by Meilland and introduced to much praise in 1952. 'Moulin Rouge' is a prolific bearer of smallish, brilliant red flowers in large clusters. the foliage is olive-green and glossy. In 1958, Bob Linquist in California introduced 'Elsinore', from 'Floradora' x 'Pinocchio' which is a prolific bearer of smallish, brilliant red flowers in large clusters. The million to one chance had happened! Two raisers, each in different countries, using different parents, had created identical roses. These days they are all labelled 'Moulin Rouge' , but if you buy a plant in America it just might be 'Elsinore'. 'Alain' x 'Orange Triumph'. Repeat flowering.

Moulin Rouge' and 'Elsinore'
.....it is now agreed that the production of 'Elsinore', being the more recently introduced will be gradually discontinued and that as soon as may be possible it will be withdrawn from the catalogues accordingly.

Elsinore (Lindquist 1957) Semi-double rich scarlet crimson blooms in clusters above glossy foliage on vigorous stems. This variety was imported last year but distribution was delayed as it appeared to be identical to 'Moulin Rouge'.  In Britain it is claimed to be an improvement on that variety. One can only marvel that two very similar seedlings could be produced about the same time in two different countries.

Elsinore... appeared to be a much improved 'Moulin Rouge'... 'Elsinore' is a brilliant vivid scarlet, blooming in large masses on strong upright stems. No disease and altogether a very fine variety.
