I see that Red Ribbons grows in zone 6b. I garden in Upstate NY, zone 5a; does anyone know of a good replacement for Red Ribbons this far north? Thanks!

They are selling this as "Rosa banksia 'Red'" again this year, here in Oregon. Hines Nursery was on the tag.

Its definitely Red Ribbons, though :]

Added as unofficial synonyms. Perhaps they think they can get away with it by mis-spelling the species name.

I used to work for a competing company. The company distributing this likely does not even know they are selling a fraud, lol. Its not a business of deep thought or shenanigans.

What makes me mad, is that its pinned to a mini trellis, making it look like the customer is buying a climber. When it grows out, it will sprawl and not climb. Its just... infuriating. The poor folks that buy this, not knowing, because they want a pretty yard.

"Red Ribbons" is sold as "Lady Banks Red" by Lowe's (the big box store) in Southern California. Their source is Nakase Brothers Wholesale Nursery. See photos.

Talk about a misnomer. Thanks for clearing that up.

Commercialism can be very deceptive.

Btw, I actually called Nakase a couple of years ago to inquire about this very topic. I spoke to customer service. They could give me no clear answer.
