‘Iced Parfait’. Modern, cluster-flowered floribunda. Light pink. Repeat flowering. Sister Mary Xavier of Launceston, Tasmania, crossed ‘Pink Parfait’ and ‘Iceberg’ in 1972 to produce this ever charming rose. The blooms are a blend of the very palest pink and are produced during a flowering period that stretches from early spring until the coldest part of winter, and they have a sweet fragrance. ‘Iced Parfait’ is a reliable plant that grows to medium height and has pale green foliage and strong disease tolerance. It can be used as a bedding plant. Zones 5-9. Xavier, Australia, 1972. ‘Pink Parfait’ x ‘Iceberg’.

Quite by chance I came across an entirely charming daughter of ‘Iceberg’ called ‘Iced Parfait’. It has the same fresh green foliage as ‘Iceberg’, the same perfectly shaped double blooms and the same light fragrance. But ‘Iced Parfait’ is pink – a delicate pale Dresden-china pink. …. I was interested to find out who had bred ‘Iced Parfait’ and intrigued when I discovered its breeder is an eighty-year-old nun from Launceston, Sister Xavier..... As many amateur breeders do, she started by planting self-pollinated seeds, but soon she went further. ‘Iceberg’ grew in the convent garden and next to it was a thriving bush of the soft pink floribunda rose ‘Pink Parfait’ which bears great clusters of lightly scented flowers for months on end. And Sister Xavier noticed that ‘Pink Parfait’ sets great quantities of seed. So she used the pollen from ‘Iceberg’ to set seed on ‘Pink Parfait’. Twelve of her seeds germinated and they were all different. She kept the six strongest bushes and discarded the rest. Later a careless gardener threw away five of these and she was left with only one bush. This was released ultimately as ‘Iced Parfait’. This was eighteen years ago [*]. Sister Xavier was seeking neither fame nor fortune – she just loves roses.

p51 Australian Raised Roses symposium. Mr. Doug Bowerman, Tasmania. ‘Iced Parfait’ Flor. The pale green foliage of this medium sized bush is offset with pale pink flowers.

p59 ibid. Mr. Morrice Duce. ‘Iced Parfait’. Cluster-flowering rose, bred from ‘Pink Parfait’ x ‘Iceberg’. Both very good cluster-type roses. Flowers are pale pink of 40 or more petals, and a very strong fragrance. Bush growth is very good and healthy.

p66 ibid. Mr. Peter Munro. Another local pink that I must get again is ‘Iced Parfait’. My bush was similar in growth and habit to parent ‘Iceberg’.

p67 ibid. Mr. Kelvin Trimper. ‘Iced Parfait’, 1982, Sister M. Xavier’, floribunda. A superb, free-flowering floribunda, with light, delicate, pink flowers in small clusters. The bush grows to 1½ x 1½ metres, and like one of its parents (‘Iceberg’), is always showy.
