‘Americana’ = Hybride de Thé – rouge moyen, remontant… très grandes fleurs, modérément pleines, à cœur en cône et larges pétales… Lorsqu’un visiteur accusait cette rose de manquer de parfum, Gene Boerner avait la réponse: il la plaçait sous son chapeau quelques instants et l’atmosphère humide et confinée suffisait à activer les cellules générant le parfum. Pour ce tour de magie, ‘Americana’ est la rose idéale. Boerner, USA, 1961.

'Americana'. Jackson & Perkins, 1961. Good high-centered form. Dark red. Up to 3 blooms on main stem. 5 inches. Slight fragrance. Height 20 in. Very good branching. Spreading growth. Free flowering. Colour does not "blue". Hardy and healthy.

Americana HT. (Boerner, 1961). 'Poinsettia' seedling x 'New Yorker'. Large blooms with 30-35 petals of excellent deep crimson colouring with black shading. Far too many of their centres split. Some varieties have less split blooms on older plants, and it is to be hoped that 'Americana' is one of these. Vigorous and not very thorny, but it mildews fairly readily. Very little perfume.

Americana HT. (E. S. Boerner) Large long ovoid bud, opening to high-centred double blooms with 30 petals nicely reflexed. The colour is really a ruby red. Disease resistant, leathery foliage, upright, bushy vigorous growth and continuous bloom. Faint perfume. ('Poinsettia' seedling x 'New Yorker').
