From 'Elli Knab picture comments: It's great to have more non-bloom photos. These are great for identification. Thanks ! - Jedmar.
Thanks Jedmar. I have downloaded another photo of the red canes of my rose. Despite one of my plants coming named from John Wheatley's property, I still admit to some slight disquiet about the name. 'Elli Knab' was said to be veined, and I have never seen any veining that could have been a characteristic. Looking further afield, 'President Macia' was said to have red wood, which my rose has. But there are hints of salmon, copper and gold in the 'President Macia' references and I have never seen those colours in my rose. The colour of my rose is a light pink on top, with a darker pink on the reverse. The flower can take on lilac tones in hot weather. A petal count, I think in December 2007, on two blooms was 48 and 50 petals and the petal texture was strong and thick. The pedicel is stiff and glandular. Very little fragrance has been noticed. One of these days I will investigate 'Jonkheer J. L. Mock' just to quieten those slight niggles about my rose being 'Elli Knab'.

Patricia, it was an Admin from USA who made the comment! I have added two references from Lambert ('38) and Kordes ('53): They describe 'Elli Knab' as light pink with deep pink reverse (not vermilion). Kordes says it is solitary, which your foundling isn't. Is your E.K. 6" large?

Of course. Thank you for the extra references. The Kordes "solitary" tipped the balance against my foundling being 'Elli Knab' and I have moved my photos to a foundling page "Birte Venske's No. 13".

The photo of asakombu taken at Carla Fineschi is questionable for the same reason.

Thank you, but we cannot list the Sangerhausen shop, as there is not a fixed selection of roses there, but "you get what you find". Congratulations if you found 'Elli Knab'. We look forward to pictures.
