My brother has one plant of Cl. Papa Meilland in his garden. It's really HUGE! As long as the bush form is renowned for its lack of vigor, this one is strikingly vigorous, shoots from the base all the time and gives many, many of its beautiful blooms throughout all season, with a big flush in May. If he wouldn't prune it, it could easily cover 25 feet of wall with an intricate mass of pricky, quite stiff branches. Fragrance is among the best of all roses.

It isn't surprising the climbing form is as vigorous as this. Many "weak" bushes have sported to quite vigorous climbing forms. Usually these climbing forms produce the more perfect blooms of the type, compared to the weaker bushes.

I keep threatening to cut him back to a bush. Training him is extremely painful and difficult as his canes are VERY stiff. His flowers are up very high! Then I inhale and all is forgiven.
