'The Nun' did not survive the polar vortex last winter, much to my dismay, because I do love its' modest but ethereal beauty. Other roses I expected to loose, such as 'Cl. Rose Marie'. 'French Lace'. and 'Ivory Triumph', did grow back. It was a wimpy plant to begin with.

Might it be worthwhile in zone 5 to try again with a stronger plant, such as the 2 year old plants from RU?

Per David Austin, Rogers Roses site, etc.., AUSnun and Candida are synonyms of The Nun

'THE NUN', 1987 has all the traits that I desire in a rose . . I plan on buying two this Fall
for the Silicon Valley, CA where it will be in a somewhat shaded area. Is this a good
idea? This white rose will be my first Austin. Is it as fragrant, as its claims? I love the
'cupped' look with the bright yellow stamins! Does it really look like this? --Thanks.

I think you will be very happy with The Nun. Some have complained about it's "parchment" color, but in the bright CA sun, that color becomes a very pretty soft white--an instance of fading working in our favor! Floral shape and growth habit are very like those of the Boutbon roses La Reine Victoria and Mme. Pierre Oger, but rebloom is much better, the blooms are bigger, and resistance to mildew is much better. It is available from Vintage Gardens and Heirloom Gardens in OR. I think it is on the Vintage current list this spring.

Thanks for your info! The NUN is never seen around there in SiliconValley! I tried once before at Vintage but they were "out of stock"; I'll try again. They are great people to deal with, as I have purchased IVORY FASHION, DARLOW's ENIGMA & SYMPATHIE from those folks. Thanks again !
