Wichuraiana Hybrid Roses
Ferdinand Roussel
A vigorous variety of the Wichuraiana strain, with small leaves of a rich and glossy bronze, that turn eventually to a bright, lustrous green. The flowers are double and appear in panicles. They are wine-red in color and fragrant. An unusual variety and one that gives satisfaction wherever planted. Its quick growth soon covers a trellis, fence or veranda with a solid bank of green that is delightful and restful, and invites one to stop and become better acquainted with the flowers and the plant. A variety that is worthy of the admiration and confidence of everyone.

La maison Barbier et C^ie , route d’Olivet, 10, à Orléans, continue ses recherches sur les hybrides de Rosa Wichuraiana. Cet automne, elle augmente cette jolie série de trois nouveautés, dont nous donnons la description ci-dessous :
Ferdinand Roussel. - Arbuste sarmenteux, feuilles moyennes, corolles très doubles, étalées, de 6 à 9 centimètres de diamètre, pétales cunéiformes, un peu dentés au sommet, rouge vineux intense. Issu de R. Wichuraiana x Luciole.

At the meeting of the French Horticultural Society on July 9th Barbier & Co., Orléans showed 16 new crossings....Ferdinand Roussel (Wichuraiana x Luciole) received a certificate of merit; the bloom is double, of 4-6 cm diameter, pure wine-red.
