William Baffin. Deep pink to light red. 15-20 [petals]. Variable [height]. Intermittent.
An Explorer rose. A kordesii hybrid. Extremely vigorous. Large clusters of slightly fragrant flowers just under 3 inches (7.5 cm) across with yellow centers. More red than pink. One excellent first flush and some limited rebloom later. Glossy medium green foliage on reddish, very thorny stems. Generally disease resistant, but vulnerable to certain types (races) of black spot. Extremely hardy with minimal dieback in severe winters. An excellent choice to replace true Climbers in the far North (zone 2).

From open pollination of 'Red Dawn x Suzanne' I selected D07 and D08. D07 was not remarkable in itself but the offspring from open pollination, D15 and D25, were excellent parents. ......D15 was the progenitor of 'William Baffin'.

D’une rusticité à toute épreuve, cet arbuste survit à des froids auxquels for peu de rosiers résistent. … Il honore le navigeur anglais Baffin (1584-1622), qui découvrit la baie portant son nom.
