Origin:
Bred by Bertrand Guinoisseau-Flon (France, 1858).
Introduced in Australia by George J. Smith, Royal Exotic Nursery in 1862 as 'Empereur du Maroc'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Dark red to dark purple, dark red shading.  Strong fragrance.  40 to 50 petals.  Average diameter 4".  Medium to large, very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, quartered, scalloped bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Armed with thorns / prickles.  
Height of 3' to 7' (90 to 215 cm).  Width of up to 3' (up to 90 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b and warmer.  Plant in partial shade for best color.  Disease susceptibility: susceptible to blackspot , susceptible to Mildew.
