Bred by Rudolf Geschwind (1829-1910) (Austria-Hungary (former), before 1901).
Class:
Hybrid Canina, Shrub.  
Bloom:
Crimson - violet.  Large, very double, cupped bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  
Habit:
Climbing.  

Height: up to 9'10" (up to 300cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Very vigorous.
