Introduced in United States by Good & Reese Company: Champion City Greenhouses in 1902 as 'Gainsborough'.

Bloom:
Light pink, ages to white .  Moderate fragrance.  Average diameter 8.5".  Very large, double (17-25 petals), borne mostly solitary bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Climbing.  

Height: up to 6'7" (up to 200cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).  Vigorous.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Thomas Gainsborough, English Neoclassical painter, famous for 'Blue Boy was born 14 May 1727. He died in 1788.
