Frühlingsgold. Kordes, Germany, 1937. 'Joanna Hill' x Rosa pimpinellifolia 'Hispida'. There is no doubt that in this rose we have a superlative plant which can hold its own in charm, fragrance, freedom of flowering, and growth with any flowering shrub. At the peak of its flowering period there is nothing more lovely in the garden, and fortunately it thrives in any soil. Its great arching branches, freely but not densely set with leaves, carry along their length large, nearly single flowers of warm butter yellow, with richly coloured stamens, fading in hot weather to creamy white. It has a glorious, far carrying fragrance. In some seasons it produces a September crop of flowers, but is usually only spring-flowering. Its spiny stems recall its R. p. 'Hispida' parentage. 6 feet by 7 feet.
