'Madame Philippe Kuntz' rose References
Book (15 Oct 2001) Page(s) 88. Phillip Robinson. Tea Roses. ....Based on 'Souvenir de David d'Angers (1856), the final sub-group descended from 'Caroline' consists of roses in shades of crimson red. I grow only three roses that belong here. Two came as 'Princesse de Sagan' (1877). The semi-double crimson rose pictured is from Ruth Knopf and appears correct. the other was from the Antique Rose Emporium and closely resembles a plate in The Old Rose Advisor 'Mme. Philippe Kuntz' (1889) and definitely belongs here. A third rose is 'Souvenir de Germain de Saint-Pierre' (1882). Unfortunately I do not have slides of them yet.
Book (Jun 1992) Page(s) 82. Mme. Philippe Kuntz Tea. Bernaix, 1889. The author cites information from different sources... bright pink or China rose... cerise fading to delicate blush. This variety is notable for the contrast of colors in the flower, which, delicate salmon pink upon opening, very rapidly becomes velvety crimson [thereafter fading to blush pink.]
