Edwin Murrell, ltd came from the Portland Nurseries, Shrewsbury which was founded by Edwin Murrell in the 19th Century. He died in 1908. His granddaughter Hilda Murrell (1906-1984)joined her father Owen Murrell and her uncle Edwin Foley Murrell in the family nursery business and in 1937 became the director. Under her management the nursery continued to specialize in roses and added miniature roses. The nursery was sold in 1970. David Austin named one of his roses for her, 'Hilda Murrell' (1984). After her retirement she became active and vocal in opposing government plans for atomic energy production and the plans for disposal of atomic waste. She was murdered under suspicious circumstances in 1984. Bassed on material in the Wikipedia entry for Hilda Murrell. Modern Roses 8 says 'Cineraire' was introduced by E. Murrell (Edwin Murrell, Ltd.,Portland Nurseries, Shrewsbury, England.). Modern Roses 10 says 'Cineraire' Ch (OGR), rb, E. Murrell, prior to 1964.. So it is not clear who raised 'Cineraire' but we can safely say that it was introduced by Edwin Murrell, Ltd.
