We grow three different clones of this rose. All of them exhibit color changes through the year. 1. The "Limberlost Clone" is most numerous here. We obtained it from Bob Edberg's Limberlost nursery. We believe that he probably obtained it from the Huntington Botanical Garden (San Marino, CA) which would mean it was probably from the late Fred Boutin's discovery of the rose on Altadena Drive, Pasadena, CA. It may be darker or paler, but it almost always exhibits notable stripes, streaks and stippleng of a pale blush pink against the darker main shade of the bloom. This is my favorite clone, and I have never seen evidence of virus on any of the many plants of it that we have. 2. The "Sequoia Clone" came from the late Ralph Moore's Sequoia Nursery. We do not know where he obtained it, but it seems likely that he may have gotten it from Tom Liggett. 3. The "Northside Pink" clone was collected in a deserted garden behind an old Victorian home, part of "Married Officers Quarters" on Mare Island, Vallejo, CA.

Photographed in coastal Southern California, on February 4, with the bushes just now coming into bloom. Bloom color varies but these are fairly dark, following a long period of cold (for us!) weather.

This is a bloom of "Northside Pink" -- a clone of "Grandmother's Hat" that was collected on Mare Island (formerly Naval Station) near Vallejo, CA. This clone is solid colored -- unlike the "Limberlost" clone (which may have come from Fred Boutine's collection (Altadena Dr., Pasadena, CA) which is frequently striped in different shades of pink.
