Class: Gallica / Provins, Miscellaneous OGR.   
Bloom: Deep pink to carmine-red.  Strong fragrance.  Average diameter 3".  Medium, semi-double (9-16 petals), cupped bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.   
Habit: Bushy, well-branched.  Matte foliage.  5 leaflets.  
 Height: 3' to 5' (90 to 150cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
 
Growing: USDA zone 3b through 8b.  Can be used for cut flower or garden.  Shade tolerant.  Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood..  Prune after flowering is finished.

Notes: Early descriptions of the 'Red Rose' are usually of 'Officinalis' and not of the single-bloomed species. DNA analysis has shown a close relationship between 'Officinalis' and 'Belle sans Flatterie'. - see References.The Swedish Rose Society  recommends R. gallica 'Officinalis'  for northern Sweden.
