Bred by Gerrit De Ruiter (Netherlands, before 1954).
Introduced in Germany by Willicher Baumschulen in 1954 as 'Alberich'.
Introduced in United Kingdom by C. Gregory & Son Ltd. in 1954 as 'Happy'.
Class:
Polyantha.   (Series: Seven Dwarfs Series )  
Bloom:
Cherry-red.  None / no fragrance.  up to 20 petals.  Average diameter 0.75".  Small, semi-double to double, cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Short, compact.  Small, glossy, dark green foliage.  

Height: 1' to 20" (30 to 50cm).  Width: up to 18" (up to 45cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b and warmer.  Can be used for ground cover.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.

Disney's animated feature Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered 21 December 1937. One of the Seven Dwarfs, Happy is known as: Happy in Germany; Glader in Sweden; Lystig in Norway; Gongolo in Italy; Feliz in Portugal; and Joyeux in France.
Rosenschule Ruf states in February 2023 that the rose in commerce in Germany as 'Alberich' is actually 'Eberwein' (Dopey).
