Bred by Eugène Verdier fils aîne (France, 1861).
Introduced in Australia by George Brunning - St. Kilda Nurseries in 1882 as 'John Cranston'.

Bloom:
Carmine-red, purple shading.  Medium to large, full (26-40 petals), expanded , flat bloom form.  Spring or summer flush with scattered later bloom.  
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
