ARS: Medium red Hybrid Tea.Registration name: King of Hearts
 Exhibition name: King of Hearts

Bloom: Red.  up to 40 petals.  Medium, double (17-25 petals), exhibition, high-centered to cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  Long, pointed buds.
Habit: Bushy.  Dark green, leathery foliage.
 Height: 18" to 30" (45 to 75cm).  Width: up to 16" (up to 40cm).

Growing: USDA zone 7b and warmer.  Can be used for beds and borders, cut flower, exhibition or garden.  Vigorous.  Spring Pruning: Remove old canes and dead or diseased wood and cut back canes that cross. In warmer climates, cut back the remaining canes by about one-third. In colder areas, you'll probably find you'll have to prune a little more than that.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .
Notes: The U.S. Patent states that this was a variety originated in 1958. There is a possibility that 'Paladin' from Sam McGredy in 1958, also of the same parentage, was Sam's nickname for the eventually named 'King of Hearts'. More research is needed.
