Eugène Forney seems to have been familiar with the origin of this variety:
“A gardener of Corbeil raised, from a small crop, a rose of the first order, ‘Madame Boutin’.” [La Taille du Rosier, by Eugène Forney, 1864, p. 14] “Flower large, full, globular, large petals, beautiful unicolored vivid cerise, perfect form, vigorous, very fragrant. Al. Carret, gardener at Corbeil, 1860; put into commerce by H. Jamain.” [La Taille du Rosier, by Eugène Forney, 1864, p. 184] "Al." is presumably "Alphonse."
