Origin:
Bred by Rudolf Geschwind (1829-1910) (Austria-Hungary (former), before 1895).
Introduced in Germany by J. C. Schmidt / Blumenschmidt in 1895 as 'Theano'.
Class:
Hybrid Californica, Hybrid Multiflora.  
Bloom:
Light pink, violet-red shading.  Mild fragrance.  Average diameter 2".  Small to medium, semi-double (9-16 petals), in large clusters, flat bloom form.  Once-blooming spring or summer.  
Habit:
Arching, armed with thorns / prickles, climbing.  Small foliage.  

Height: up to 9'10" (up to 300cm).  
Growing:
USDA zone 4b through 9b.  Hardy.  vigorous.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
According to Erich Unmuth, it is questionable whether 'Theano' in gardens and in commerce is the original Geschwind rose - see References.
Said to be identical with Rosa californica 'Plena'.
