Brown Velvet is glandular, and Has Grandma's hat in the background, which is almost a moss rose, with very strongly scented plant parts, the kind that won't wash off.
Thanks, I don't have either of those background plants. Pics of DB look very smooth-stemmed and almost thornless. Mine is identical in every other aspect, nice to know it comes by the "mossiness" honestly!

I bought DB b/c it was hailed as heat tolerant and very vigorous and a non-stop bloomer. Alas, that has not been the case with mine , going on its third year in my south Louisiana very hot, humid garden. It's still puny and rarely blooms, though it gets lots of sun. It is almost always covered in black spot and has already dropped a fair portion of its leaves due to BS. I even tried a regimen of spraying this year, which I don't really like to do, starting early, to see if that would help it but does not appear to have made a difference. I hold out hope that it will establish itself this year and take off.
Few modern roses have a delicate, tea-like quality of branches and overall architecture, which I find to be a very appealing characteristic of Dragon's Blood.
