Book (1918) H. R. Darlington: A Study of Form in the Rose p69. Grand Duc Adolphe de Luxembourg, which appeared in 1892, created quite a sensation, as it was grown in the old Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Chiswick. If we except La France it was perhaps one of the first Roses of the bi-colour type, having rosy-white petals with a brick-red reverse. Its inveterate habit of hanging its head has caused it to be superseded, but its form was quite worth notice.
p74. Ibid. ... Then following the same line to Mrs. E. G. Hill, a decorative Rose of the most beautiful form, and the culmination of the type of Grand Duc A. de Luxembourg, but superior to that Rose in holding its head erect.

Magazine (1 Oct 1899) Page(s) 154. Includes photo(s).
Translation: Rose Grand-Duc Adolphe de Luxembourg (Hybrid Tea) The rose represented in our colored illustration is one of the fine and numerous obtentions of the House of Soupert and Notting, of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg that was introduced to commerce in November 1891. Issue of Triomphe de la Terre des Roses X Madame de Leobensels, the rose Grand-Duc Adolphe de Luxembourg forms a vigorous and floriferous plant, yielding well-formed buds that are sufficiently long to be used to create bouquets. The very large flower, nearly full, with substantial petals, is a light brick-pink in the center, with a petal reverse of a glossy, bright geranium. These two distinct colors give the bloom a magnificent and absolutely distinct effect. We highly recommend this rose, which has receoved a gold medal at its introduction. It deserves to appear in all collections.
