'Mme Lauriol de Barny'. Trouillard, France, 1868. For several years I had a rose called 'Lauriol de Barny', but have been unable to trace it satisfactorily in old books. Singer states that the name applies to a 'currant-red' Hybrid Perpetual, but I find he also lists Mme Lauriol de Barny' with flowers 'rose charmant. I think this must be our rose, which I trace back to the Bunyard collection; it is one of the most beautiful, producing early in the season, but seldom later, large fully double blooms of light silvery pink, rather after the style of Mme Isaac Pereire. With the smooth foliage they are set along the arching stems. It is a first-class variety, suitable for growing as an open bush up to about 5 feet, or as a pillar rose, 6 to 7 feet.
