Book (1966) Page(s) 48, plate 63. Includes photo(s). Stella Polaris Shrub rose Jenson 1890 This variety originates from R. rugosa, the Japanese Rose. It has large, single white flowers and apple-shaped hips which are larger than those of the parent species. Stiff growth reaching to about hip height, with underground runners; it is particularly suitable for covering slopes. Tolerates poor, loose soil and windy conditions. R. rugosa, the parent species of this variety and of the variety Fru Dagmar Hastrup, grows up to hip height and is particularly suitable for coastal areas as it tolerates sea-fog and salt spray.
