Registration name: Maréchal Niel (tea noisette, Pradel 1864)

Discovered by Louis Castel (France, 1857).
Introduced in France by Eugène Verdier fils aîne in 1864 as 'Maréchal Niel'.
Introduced in Australia by Charles Wyatt, Frogmore Nursery in 1868 as 'Maréchal Niel'.

Noisette, Tea, Tea Noisette, Tea, Cl..  

Yellow.  Iris fragrance.  Strong, raspberry, tea, violets fragrance.  Average diameter 5".  Very large, very double, borne mostly solitary, in small clusters, cupped, globular bloom form.  Occasional repeat later in the season.  

Climbing.  Glossy, light green foliage.  3 to 7 leaflets.  

Height: 10' to 15' (305 to 455cm).  Width: up to 6' (up to 185cm).

USDA zone 7a through 10a.  Shade tolerant.  Requires spring freeze protection (see glossary - Spring freeze protection) .  Do not prune.

According to E. Verdier, 'Maréchal Niel' is a found rose discovered by Louis Castel in 1857 in the garden of Mr. Chateau in Montauban - see References. The attribution to Pradel is probably due to a confusion with the hybrid perpetual of the same name issued by this breeder in 1861.
