    2 x OP seed received 20th Sept. 2011, Tasmania, Australia. Will keep you informed of any progress. Seeds are quite huge! I'm anticipating a lengthy cold sleep for these ones!

    Yes, the seed are huge.

    Seed fertility isn't the greatest but I've raised some interesting things from it.

    Golda is better for pollen.

    Do you know how it handles the cold, Robert? All the banksiae do quite poorly here because they just don't like the winter cold and the short growing season.

    My guess is it should be no problem. This one over Winters in Ohio.

    Mike Fitts grows it there and reports it's has decent Blackspot resistance for him.

    Great to know :) I'm tempted to do an embryo extraction but am worried I will ruin them... so they went into tyhe fridge tonight.

    Sounds good Simon. FWIW, I'd think these a relatively easy subject for embryo extraction.

    Banksia influence is dilute in these hybrids. Statistically they are more californica. It's been a challenge to bring some of the banksia character but I'm getting there.

    1 of 2 OP 'Golda Banks' seeds germinated today. Big strong seedling. Hoping I can keep it going now.

    Simon, I'm glad to hear seed germinated for you. I'll be curious to see pictures as it develops.

    In my experience Golda is easier for pollen but seed does germinate.

    I've managed a number of crosses with it.

    Robert, unfortunately I lost this seedling to a frost a few weeks ago. It was a fairly bad frost but most other seedlings were unaffected.

    I smelled this rose in Robert's garden today for the first time. What a wonderful, true cinnamon fragrance! It intensified in my hand as I held it while walking around looking at all the amazing results of his handy work. What wonderful scents, flower and plant forms he has created! Just amazing!

    Thanks Andrew. Species genes are dilute in this cultivar.

    If it ever gets registered it will be a challenge to classify.
