6 March 2016. Livermore, CA. Two older and rained-on blooms sacrificed for a petal count of first-flush blooms. The bloom on the left yielded at least 111 petals, the one on the right at least 112.

8 Mar 2016. Livermore, CA. The backs of the leaves are actually more prickly, it seems, than the rest of the bush. Every leaf has at least 4 prickles.
