The rose book, a practical treatise on the culture of the rose (1864)
James Shirley Hibberd
La Boule d'Or does not deserve its name, it lacks colour and compactness, but it blooms most abundantly, and is indispensable.

The Florist and Pomologist 1: 62 (April 1862)
THE WAY TO BLOOM ISABELLA GRAY AND OTHER YELLOW ROSES.
La Boule d'Or is very hardy, and has wintered perfectly intact out-of-doors with three tiles over its roots and a little straw tied round the base of the plant. The exposed tops also suffered no damage. Its wood is as hardy as that of Gloire de Dijon, which is one of the best and noblest productions of France.
Rectory, Rushton. W. F. Radclyffe.
