[(Solitaire x Baby Love) x Golden Wings] bloomed today. I am not a fan, even though the color is like Masquerade, a color that I love, and the blooms wide and single. The plant is just so ... homely :[ I love Golden Wings itself, but I think a lot of the negative Pernet attributes shine through into my seedlings.

That a great cross Michael. Offspring of Golden Wings tend to mildew here, and yes the growth habits tend to be poor. It's disappointing to me as I think Golden Wings itself has so much to offer. I agree, it's not a very good parent.

Seeing pictures of this rose for the first time I was struck how the shape of the bloom resembles Pardancanda norrisii.

Hi Rob, yes, it is an oddball. It grows about 4' tall for me and suckers readily. Repeat is only so so.
The blossoms blow very quickly in the heat.
I tried it for pollen this Spring and I'm pretty sure I got good hip set with it. I'm just harvesting hips now so I will know for sure soon.

Robert,
I like the narrow petals. My initial thought was breeding selectively for that trait might bring out something kind of cool.

I get those narrow petals in a number of my crosses, and they aren't necessarily closely related to one another. I think it would be a fairly easy characteristic to select for if you want to give it a go.
